Who Is Willy Wonka?

You mean you don’t know?! Willy Wonka is Gene Wilder, Johnny Depp, –sure, but more than ever, he’s the rich uncle who everyone avoids, the eccentric old man in the house on the end of the block, and the godfather we all wished for while we did our chores. He was the candy man who had a smile and something sweet, for just a penny, and he was the mode of transportation to all of our wildest childhood dreams.

The musical “Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory”, starring Gene Wilder, was released in 1971 and was originally a box office flop. Then in 2005 another version of the film came out starring the famous Johnny Depp. This one titled “Charlie and The Chocolate Factory” had some parts from the novel that were not included in the first movie. The 2005 version was more focused on the history of the character. This film had more sections from the original novel written by Roald Dahl and also deleted some scenes from the previous movie.

The actual plot is basically based upon “The Amazing Choclatier” also known as Willy Wonka, who is the founder of this enormous factory that invents several delicious candies, and he has a problem with spies entering his factory and stealing his secret recipes. In the mean time he has this under cover rival chocolate maker, offering the children money for them to steal a piece of his special Everlasting Gobstopper. This part of the plot is a departure from the original novel. So he closes the factory and fired all of his workers. Then several years later while on a journey overseas to find new exotic flavors for his candy he finds these Oompa-Loompas a group of dwarves from Loompaland. Then reopens his factory and hires the “Oompa-Loompas” to relish the taste of his cocoa beans.

Now due to the fact that Wonka has no children to inherit his franchise he starts this contest for five Golden Tickets to randomly be placed in his Wonka Bars for the winners to receive a free tour of the factory. Charlie Bucket, one of the five kids to find this Golden Ticket, is now on this crazy tour of the mysterious factory. Every time one of the children finds this ticket the under cover rival chocolate maker shows up and offers them the money for one of the Everlasting Gobstoppers. Through out this tour all of the children except for Charlie get themselves into predicaments which eventually get them removed from the group. With Charlie being the last child remaining Mr. Willy Wonka offers for Charlie to move him and his family into the factory to become his successor. Willy Wonka now serves as a mascot for the famously known Nestlé’s Willy Wonka Candy Company brand.
